Jacket Measurements

Bust/Chest

To take your bust measurement, first make sure you are wearing a shirt. Take the tape, measure it around your chest from underneath your armpits across its maximum point, and make especially sure that the tape goes up over your shoulder blades at the back.

Be precise to the nearest inch!

Bust Width

To take your bust width, first wear a shirt then hold the tape across your bust and measure from the top most tip to the other. Make sure to hold the tape under tension but not stretched tight.

Be precise to the nearest inch!

Shoulder to bust

For best measurement, first wear a jacket. Hold the tape against the shoulder seam and slowly measure down to the maximum point of your bust line. Alternatively, you can take the measurement by wearing a shirt and then measuring down from the shoulder seam to the maximum point of your bust line.

Be precise, round up to the nearest inch.

Jacket Waist

The jacket waist is measured an inch or two above your trouser waist around the height of the belly button. Heavily built women should take particular care to measure at the widest point and slim women at their narrowest. Hold the tape and measure around the waist.

Be precise, round up to the nearest ½ inch.

Seat

To take your seat measurement, ensure your pockets are empty. Take the tape and measure along your hips and buttocks at their widest point looping around the thighs.

Be precise, round up to the nearest ½ inch.

Nape to Waist

Nape to waist measurement is taken from the bottom of the jacket collar along the seam at the back, to the waist position you took for your jacket waist measure shown above. The point opposite to your belly button is the waist position. For correct measurement it is important to follow the contours of the back.

Be precise, round up to the nearest ½ inch.

Jacket Length

Nape to waist measurement is taken from the bottom of the jacket collar along the seam at the back, to the waist position you took for your jacket waist measure shown above. The point opposite to your belly button is the waist position. For correct measurement it is important to follow the contours of the back.

Be precise, round up to the nearest ½ inch.

Sleeve Length

For the best measurement of the sleeve length, measure from the cuff and up to the top of the shoulder seam. Start from the centre of the cuff, and make sure to go over the top of the sleeve all the way to the seam of the shoulders. Otherwise the measurement may come out a few inches short.

Be precise, round up to the nearest ½ inch.

Half Back

Hold the tape under tension but not stretched tight. Measure across the back of your suit jacket. Hold the tape and measure the half back between the two junctions of the armhole and the hind arm seam. The half back measurement is taken to the nearest 1/8 of an inch, so the full back should be measured to the nearest 1/4 inch. Then divide the number by two (2) to get your half back measure.

Be sure to be precise, round up to the nearest 1/8 inch.
